Context

The Emergency Department at University Hospital Essen requires a clear orientation system that prevents confusion between examination rooms. The signage uses color as the primary means of identification, allowing rooms and functional areas to be distinguished quickly and intuitively.

Design System

The design system is based on three standardized colors: red for general emergency care, yellow for infectious diseases, and orange for the resuscitation room. All additional colors are derived from these three base colors.

Signage:

The sign was designed with a discreet mounting system, reducing its physical presence so that it is perceived primarily as a field of color.
